Project objectives/short summary

The project contributed to improvement of community-based mental health prevention services of the region and in cross-border area between Sisak-Moslavina County in Croatia and North- West Bosnia and Herzegovina. In order to reduce prevalence of most common psychological disorders and improve beneficiaries' psychological well-being and general health, the project focused on early identification and intervention in protecting and improving mental health of vulnerable categories, such as children, youth, marginalized and socially deprived families and older people. Project activities also helped to build capacities of 60 providers of mental health prevention services in local communities, such as family doctors and nurses, paediatricians and school doctors, kindergarten and school teachers, social workers etc. Series of trainings were tailored to the needs of service providers and were designed to improve their capabilities for mental health prevention in different human development stages, spanning from early development to old age.
The project specifically focuses on mental health of the youth. To improve prevention of substance abuse and reduce youth behaviour problems, the project initiated cross-border networking of professionals involved in prevention, suppression, and treatment and developed joint preventive action protocols. In addition, through cross-border, cross-disciplinary knowledge, experiences and good practices exchange, the project stimulated creative thinking, innovative ideas and approaches and therefore contributed to continuous improvement in community-based mental health practice.
